Reupholstering
Reupholstering your existing furniture can be a good investment. We hear the term “go green” often these days. In this context, reupholstering is both smart and practical to combat today’s corporate business model of throw-away consumer merchandise.
With a growing global population making increasing demands on our natural resources, recycling our upholstered furniture can save millions of trees and greatly reduce the number of large household items going into our landfills. I am often asked if it is worth reupholstering a piece of furniture. My answer is based on the following criteria:
1. Do you like the particular piece of furniture?
2. Is the furniture comfortable?
3. Does the furniture fit in your room or space?
4. Is your furniture constructed well?
If the answer to all these questions is yes, then it is usually worth the investment to renovate and upholster your existing furniture. Today’s furniture is often poorly constructed consisting of particle board, construction plywood, and pine stapled together without glue or dowel pins. Without exaggeration, the new bargain sofa purchased today may end up in the landfill long before our parent’s old stand-by.
If you’re just tired of your old furniture and want a new look, your sofa or chair can be remodeled without loosing the comfort and durability it already possesses. A professional reupholstering job will look and feel new.
Below are a few examples of the hundreds of furniture items I have renovated over the years.
